From 2,231 Papers to Candidate Unasked Questions

The corpus is now allowed to generate candidate gaps. Publication sparsity, discontinuity or narrow coverage creates a question—not a conclusion.

Memory → Pattern → Candidate Gap → Question Passport → HI Review → Evidence Search / Experiment → Reality Return

Three gap types

RELATIONSHIP_SPARSE — two established populations rarely connect in the corpus. STALE_OR_DORMANT — a once-recurrent relationship no longer appears recently. EMERGENT_NARROW_COVERAGE — a recent method is concentrated in a narrow population.

Critical rule: absence or sparsity in publications is not absence in Reality. Every candidate must distinguish scientific gap, capability gap, terminology gap, source-coverage gap and appropriate specialisation.

Why is the Cryptococcus × Whole-genome sequencing relationship sparse in the publication corpus, and is this a true capability gap, a terminology/classification gap, or simply an unrepresented relationship?

Pathogen: Cryptococcus · Technology: Whole-genome sequencing · Observed papers: 0

Boundary: Publication sparsity does not imply scientific absence or institutional incapability.

Reality Return: Review source classifications and institutional history before deciding whether targeted evidence search or a new experiment is warranted.

The Streptococcus pneumoniae × PCR / molecular diagnostics relationship was recurrent but has not appeared recently in the corpus. Is the capability obsolete, absorbed into newer methods, dormant, or simply relabelled?

Pathogen: Streptococcus pneumoniae · Technology: PCR / molecular diagnostics · Observed papers: 8 · Last signal: 2012

Boundary: No recent publication signal does not prove loss of capability.

Reality Return: Trace later methods, teams, datasets and capability records before treating the relationship as lost.

What makes this different from bibliometrics?

Bibliometrics can count sparse cells. iCIDM converts a sparse cell into a governed epistemic object with provenance, boundary, review gate and Reality Return. The goal is not to auto-generate research priorities; it is to make potentially important unasked questions visible enough to review.

UNKNOWN GATE · BEFORE QUESTION PROMOTION

Diagnose the unknown before calling it a new question

Candidate gaps should pass U1–U5 diagnosis. Representation gaps, mixed realities, scope errors and insufficient evidence should be handled before promotion to a genuine Reality Unknown.

Open Unknown Diagnostic Gate →

QUESTION QUALITY EXPERIMENT

Candidate questions now face a promotion gate

The first conservative test held all current gap-generated candidates before U5 promotion: useful hypotheses remain visible, but none is automatically called a Reality Unknown.

Open Question Quality Experiment →

GLOBAL SEARCH GATE

Candidate questions cannot jump directly to Research

After local gap detection and U1–U4 diagnosis, global evidence must be checked before Question Passport promotion.
