Consciousness Observatory
Consciousness enters iSydney not as an answer, but as an unavoidable part of investigating the observer. The Observatory compares states, perturbations, measurements, theories, interpretations and unknowns without treating intelligence, language, agency, self-observation and consciousness as synonyms.
Reality Metabolism · observer-aware view
The “Experience ?” position is intentionally testable, not constitutionally fixed.
CQ-001 · Great Question Passport
Scope: phenomena, mechanisms, measurements, reports, theories, boundaries and relationships to life, intelligence, selfhood, language and agency.
Reality Return: identify observations or experiments that can discriminate explanations, improve care, or clarify what remains unknown.

Select a window. Each object is treated as a phenomenon/state passport, not as a theory of consciousness.
Evidence Boundary Matrix
Behaviour, physiology, neural activity, task performance, clinical state.
First-person account recorded as report data.
Interpretation linking observations to an unobserved process.
Structured explanatory model with assumptions and predictions.
Meaning frameworks kept visible but not silently promoted to empirical fact.
Where evidence is absent, insufficient, contradictory, or theory-dependent.
Explorer experiments
Explore “Self” across states
Waking → dreaming → meditation → psychedelic states → NDE reports → anaesthesia → disorders of consciousness. Compare self-model, memory, agency, time, embodiment and reportability.
Observe observation
Ask how attention, expectation, training, injury, drugs, sleep and measurement conditions change what an observer can report or act upon.
AI / consciousness boundary
Compare capability, language, self-reference, self-monitoring and agency while preserving the rule: capability is not evidence of consciousness.
Theory population · starter gateway
Global-workspace family
Passport fields: core claim · predicted signatures · supporting evidence · challenges · alternative explanations · open tests.
Integrated-information approaches
Represent mathematical/causal claims separately from empirical measurements and philosophical interpretation.
Higher-order approaches
Track what counts as higher-order representation and which observations distinguish variants.
Recurrent-processing approaches
Connect recurrent neural processing claims to perceptual-awareness experiments and competing interpretations.
Predictive / inference-related approaches
Separate broad predictive-processing frameworks from specific consciousness claims.
Other & emerging theories
The population is intentionally extensible. New theories inherit the same Passport + Evidence + Relationship schema rather than receiving a new subsystem.
